Joan Apter, a Senior Consultant with Idea Champions, has 23 years experience in organizational development, training, consulting, and motivational public speaking that has taken her to 26 countries. Ms. Apter has brought powerful and innovative thinking into workshops and course work in a broad range of topics. She specializes in communication skills including cross-cultural communication, coaching and counseling, customer service and conflict resolution. Other areas of expertise include team building, experiential learning and creative thinking. She developed and delivers the "The Heart of Change: Managing Choice and Transition in the 21st Century" and "Reinventing Retirement: Change, Transition and Choice in the 21st Century".
In addition to Ms. Apter's broad range of consulting and platform skills, she has coached managers in the areas of personal and employee performance improvement, stress management and experiential learning methods. For seven years, Ms. Apter was the Regional Training Manger for Elan Vital, Inc., an international nonprofit educational organization. Ms. Apter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Lawrence University in Wisconsin. She is an experienced facilitator of Adventure-Based Learning, and is a Certified Ropes Course Instructor. She is a Newfield Group graduate in Mastering the Art of Professional Coaching and studied Whole-Brain Learning Skills with the Educational Kinesiology Foundation. She is also a Certified Trainer in Visual Systems Thinking, and is an Instructor for the Midway Center for Creative Imagination in Washington DC.
She is fluent in French and Hindi and is the author of The Council Process Activity Guide (The Ojai Foundation Press, 1994). She is an active member of the American Society For Training and Development, and the National Experimental Learning Association.
Joan brings a rich background in holistic health. She writes, "The Aromatherapy Corner" in the national publication, "Healing Retreats and Spas" and offers Aromatherapy classes throughout the East Coast.
She resides in Woodstock, New York.
